The EU might “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans imposed by the United States on five Europeans involved in combating online hate and disinformation, an EU official stated.
EU Officials Decry US Move as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe such as the French president accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the visa restrictions targeted individuals who have been central to campaigns to introduce legislation regulating US-based technology firms.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded organised efforts to pressure American platforms to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “This government will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
