Congressional Panel Requests Interview with Andrew in Jeffrey Epstein Investigation

A US congressional committee probing pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein has sent a letter to Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, once Britain’s Prince Andrew, demanding that he participate in questioning as part of its inquiry into Epstein’s wrongdoings.

In a document published on Thursday, a California congressman, the leading Democrat on the House investigative committee, requested that King Charles III’s brother cooperate with its inquiry.

The written appeal to provide testimony arrives a week after Mountbatten Windsor was stripped of his royal title and opted to give up his leased home in Windsor.

Documents and Allegations

Mountbatten Windsor’s name features in papers and flight logs obtained from Epstein’s estate and made public by the committee. He has also been alleged by one of Epstein’s accusers, the late Virginia Giuffre, of sexual assault.

“The panel will probe claims of abuse by Mountbatten Windsor, and will demand details on Epstein’s operations, network, and connections based on the men’s long-term and thoroughly recorded friendship,” the committee said in a statement.

It demanded particulars from Mountbatten Windsor on particulars of his friendship with Epstein, who killed himself in a New York jail cell in 2019. Andrew has always strongly denied any impropriety.

Substance of the Request

“It has been publicly reported that your relationship with Mr Epstein commenced in 1999 and that you continued associating through and after his 2008 conviction for procuring minors for prostitution,” the letter said.

It stated further: “It has also been claimed that you went with Epstein to his New York residence, the Queen’s residence at Balmoral, and to Mr Epstein’s personal island in the US Virgin Islands, where you have been alleged of abusing underage individuals. This intimate friendship with Mr Epstein, along with the recently revealed 2011 electronic correspondence in which you wrote to him ‘we are in this together’, further bolsters our suspicion that you may have valuable information about the wrongdoings committed by Mr Epstein and his co-conspirators.”

A notification regarding the letter said it was co-signed by 13 other Democrats on the committee and asks a reply by 20 November.

Previous Statements and Collaboration

The letter arrives a week after another Democrat on the committee stated: “Andrew should be called to give evidence before the panel. The people should be able to know who was assaulting women and underage individuals alongside Epstein.”

However, the representative does not have the ability to subpoena the duke and Congress itself cannot oblige testimony from a overseas individual.

In 2020, US agencies said that Mountbatten Windsor failed to respond to US appeals for an meeting. The then US attorney for the southern district of New York said that prosecutors and the FBI had approached Andrew’s attorneys to check on his earlier promise that he was “prepared to help any suitable law enforcement agency”.

“It’s fair for people to know whether Prince Andrew has honored with that assurance,” the attorney said, adding that to date he had “provided absolutely no cooperation”.

Appeals for Justice

The representative said in a statement that “rich and influential men have avoided the law for far too long. Now, one-time Prince Andrew has the chance to tell the truth and deliver justice for the survivors. We will not halt pushing for responsibility and clarity for victims of Epstein and his gang of co-conspirators.”

Another supporter, a Virginia Democrat, said that after hearing accounts to the committee from Epstein’s victims, as well as news accounts of disclosed papers, “it is crucial that Andrew assists with the active investigation. If he is blameless, then he can clear his name.”

The lawmaker stated further: “And if not, our examination will demonstrate that, and the affected individuals will receive much-delayed justice. The royal household’s actions stripping Andrew of his styles show there is further to this situation.”

The letter was sent on the same day the British king formally stripped Mountbatten Windsor of his HRH style. Charles III publicly made the change – which had been declared a week ago – by issuing a “official document” which the monarch’s office released in the Gazette, the UK’s public registry.
